Vultures of corporate world have their own ugly dimensions. They love carrion and mainly thrive on meek and downtrodden. An apt demonstration of this dictum reflected today when I came across a helpless guy who had come all the way from Lahore with his family and since then become a rolling stone in Federal Metropolis.
Grieved and appalled on this luckless man I sat beside him in the open in this biting cold with his little children. The man told me his name is Ahmad and he was compelled to come here as Mobilink had been dilly dallying his payment of more than two million for the last three years. This person ran a small company Fair Deal Services and possessed all the documentary evidence in support of his claim. He narrated his contacted all ‘people-that-matter’ in Mobilink but what he got in response were merely some words of sympathy and hollow promises.
Video Interview with the Protester and Mobilink Officials: The bosses in Mobilink had now even stopped taking his phone calls. Things got worse for himand he finally moved to Islamabad with his family which resulted in additional expenses to him as his economic condition had already been fragile due to non-payment. When he put up banners and placards and sat in front of their office Mobilink people called him inside and tried to convince him to take only half payment i-e a mere 1.1 million but he refused to take that unless his genuine payment was not released. He also deplored that the company did not offer any food or water to him or his family despite spending days after days outside their office. He also requested CJ Supreme Court to take Suo Motto notice of this injustice done to him.
Now my question to this Telecom Company is simple: Instead of hoodwinking people in the name of CSR initiatives, why doesn’t it pay to those whom it owe hefty sums of money? Projecting CSRs is nothing but an attempt of hoodwinking people.
