How to protect data during power failure

Due to power failure, many of us lose data from personal computers. To avoid this problem many people use Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS). For the past years UPS would only be used in computer centers and critical business applications.

But the cost of UPS has come down over the years so that UPS can be used for personal computers also. UPS is a battery backup; it saves power and gives it back when the power gets failure. During power failure you can’t able to continue working with your computer. If you use UPS, it will give enough time to save the work that you've already started.

If you have unsaved data during power failure, you can change your 'Power Option' settings to ensure that your computer will go in to ‘Hibernate mode’ before the battery backup power is gone. Once a computer enters Hibernate mode, it takes all of the data that is in memory and stores it on your hard drive. Just Follow the below steps to change your system settings.

Step 1: StartàControl PanelàPerformance and MaintenanceàPower Options.

Step 2: In Power Option Properties, select Hibernate tab.

Step 3: Select the checkbox titled as Enable hibernation. Then click Apply

Step 4: Click the Power Schemes tab.

Step 5: In the Power Schemes drop down menu, select Max Battery from the list.

Step 6: In the "System hibernates" category, select a time that is less than your maximum backup battery life. Then click Apply

Step 7: Exit all windows.
