There are many reasons for a computer to start running slow. In this article we are sharing some common reasons for computers to run slow.
Your Hard Drive is running low on space : Run Disk Clean-Up, also consider moving some of your Music, video files and Pictures on to CD’s, then delete them from your computer to free-up some disk space. Clear all temporary internet files and folders using CCleaner
CPU is too hot : Your CPU might be overheating and then throttling down to a slow speed. Check your fans, heat sinks and CPU temperature. Clean out any dust in the case. Check the fan outlets are not obstructed. Check this especially if this is a new build or new CPU.
Low system resources : Resources mean Memory. Add more RAM or free up some hard drive space, or both. More RAM is the quickest and usually most effective way to increase your computers performance.
Viruses can also slow your computer down : They can infect files or consume resources. Open your Anti-Virus program and under Scan Options, choose Scan Whole Computer.
Malfunctioning hardware : This could be the hard drive, the processor (CPU), Memory Modules, Video Card, the Motherboard, or any number of other components including external components. There is usually some warning if a piece of hard ware is failing, such as frequent error messages or your system keeps shutting down suddenly or freezing.
Too many programs installed, all eating up resources : Uninstall programs you don’t use. Go to Add/Remove Programs, and remove anything that looks like it could be unwanted or malicious.
You have more than one security software : It sounds like a good idea to have more than one security suite installed, you get double protection. But what you get is double trouble, with each security suite fighting over your computer’s resources, leaving very little for you.
Too many programs automatically running on Start Up : Review your start up programs and disable any utilities you don’t need. This will free up RAM and disk space.
RUN > MSConfig > choose the Startup tab
Remove as much as you can from msconfig. You can remove everything and the computer will still boot, so don't be afraid to remove something if you don't know what it is. Keep the stuff you recognize like your Antivirus software.
