Antivirus for Linux? Does a Linux user need antivirus software? Not really: Linux is the most stable and secure operating system than all other operating systems, infecting a Linux machine is pretty hard to do. But, there are many reasons you might want a virus scanner on your Linux PC:
- to scan a Windows drive in your PC
- to scan a Windows-based network attached server or hard drive
- to scan Windows machines over a network
- to scan files you are going to send to other people
- to scan e-mail you are going to forward to other people
- Linux virus infections are theoretically possible.
There are a number of anti-virus applications available for Linux. If you want an antivirus for linux, I would suggest ClamAV, Avast or AVG , As these 3 can work on linux and all are freeware.
ClamAV : Completely open source, ClamAV is probably the most famous Linux anti-virus.
Download Clam Antivirus
Avast : avast! Linux Home Edition represents an antivirus solution for the increasingly popular Linux platform. The Home Edition is offered free of charge but only for home, non-commercial use.

AVG : Basic antivirus protection for Linux/FreeBSD available to download for free. Free virus protection for your PC. For private and non-commercial use only.
