- Different Areas of Computer Science:
1. Software Engineering:
It is the discipline of computer science whose aim is to produce quality software with in the time constraint, which is developed or engineered economically, worked efficiently and fulfilled the user’s need effectively.
2. Hardware Manufacturing:
It is the discipline of computer science which is concerned with designing and making of the physical components of a computer system, including any peripheral equipment such as printers, motherboards, monitors, modems, keyboard and mouse devices etc.
3. Networking:
It is the branch of computer science which deals with the connecting computers locally or globally to facilitate communication.
4. E-commerce:
It is the branch of computer science which is used for commercial activity that takes place by means of computers connected through a network.
5. Database:
It is the branch of computer science, which is concerned with computerized record keeping that, is its storage in electronic filing cabinet and its retrieval on demand.
6. Artificial Intelligence:
It is the branch of computer science, which is concerned with designing intelligent computer systems that exhibit the characteristics we associate with intelligence in human behavior and enabling computers to simulate such aspects of human intelligence as speech recognition, deduction, creative response, the ability to learn from experience.
- Application (uses) of Computer:
1. Computers in Business:
Business use computers for variety of purposes ranging from decision making (logical operations) to electronic commerce (E-Commerce).
2. Computers in Factories:
Computers control the machines in a factory remotely. This ability extends to making repairs and putting upgrades into machines.
3. Computers in Communication:
One of the most popular uses of computers today is communicating with other people who have computers. Whether for business or personal reasons. Customers are able to easily send complaints and comments to companies. The same is applied to suppliers. This greater communication improves products and allows greater customer support; computers are used to communicate all over the world through Internet (A Global Area Network).
4. Computers in Education:
Students use computers to work for their own benefits, they use computers in their classrooms and libraries and computers are rapidly coming as essential to the learning.
5. Computers in Engineering and Manufacturing:
Computers are used for everything from production planning to process control. Many manufacturing units are fully automated with industrial robots, automated guided vehicles etc. where computers control everything. Much software has been developed to facilitate engineering and manufacturing works, for example, computer-Aided Design/computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAD/CAM). With CAD/CAM, a product, such as a machine part, is designed with CAD program and the finished design is translated into a set of instructions that can be transmitted to and used by the machines dedicated to fabrication, assembly and process control.
6. Computers in Medicine:
In medicine today, computers are used for everything from diagnosing illness to monitoring patients during surgery and controlling permanent prostheses. Like engineering software, there is software for medicine. For example the use of computers by physicians in diagnosing patient conditions. Medicine application programs can help to determine the cause, symptoms, and treatment of a problem as well as to maintain a record of a patient’s medical history and rest results.
7. Computers in Entertainment:
The production of television programs and movies involves computer technology at every stage of the process. Computer game is the class of computer program in which one or more users interact with the computer as a form of entertainments. Computer games run the gamut (entire range or scope) from simple alphabet games for toddlers to chess, treasure hunts, war games, and simulations of world events.
8. Computers in Music:
Musician and singers have teamed up with computer to create an amazing range of instruments and sounds simply by playing a keyboard. The musical instruments and sounds simply by playing keyboard. The musical instrument digital interface (MIDI) is a system that synchronizes (coincide) hardware and software that produces electronic tones. The music concerts and movies all use computer for the variety of purpose ranging from producing astonishing special effects and computer animation to stage lighting.
9. Computers in Graphics:
The representation of business information, such as sales figures and stock prices, in chart form rather than as lists of numbers. Presentation graphics are used to give viewers and immediate grasp of business statistics and their significance. Common examples are area charts, bar charts, line charts and pie charts.
10. Computers in Publication:
The newspaper industry is being radically transformed by computer technology. Reporters scan the internet for hard-to-find facts, white and edit stories on location using notebook computers and transmit those stories by modem to central office. Production crew assembles pages with computers instead of typesetting machine. Many newspaper produce World Wide Web editions in addition to traditional paper publications.
11. Computers in Transportation:
Computers are used in cars and buses to monitors fluid level, temperature, and electrical system. Air traffic controllers on the ground use computerized air traffic control system to keep track of incoming and outgoing flights.
12. Computers in Agriculture:
Farmers can use small computers to help with billing, crop information, cost per acre and feed combination. Cattle ranchers can also use computers for information about livestock breeding and performance.
13. Computers in Land Exploration:
Energy exploration computers use computers to locate oil, coal, natural gas and uranium.
14. Computers in Banks:
Computers speed up record keeping and allow banks to offer same day services and even do it yourself banking over the phone. Computers have helped fuel the cashless economy, enabling the widespread use of credit cards and instantaneous credit checks by banks. Automatic teller machine (ATM) is one of the fabulous computerized machines, used to draw instant cash.
15. Computers in House:
Personal computers are being used at home to keep records, draw pictures, publish, newsletters, compile documents, send e-mail and connect with others through MSN on Internet.
