Telecommunication is very important to the world. The ability to communicate the most remote part of the earth instantly has changed the way people and government act. Conversely the entire world is very important to telecommunications.
The electronic media and movies are a major source of entertainment and information or most people. They act as a soothing relaxant, a warm companion, a friendly sage, a portage to a vicarious adventure, and a window to the outer world. Radio, TV, and the internet answer simple questions such as whether or not to carry an umbrella, and they give us more complex information so we can better choose our country’s leaders. They keep up to ate in times of disaster and put us in touch with others through periods of happiness, pain, and curiosity.
The electronic media are far from perfect as some people thinks in a negative way. Detractors complain about the sensationalism of news and talk shows. Parents and politicians bemoan the violence and indecency in movies, on television, and in music lyrics on the radio. Concern exists over the amount of time children and adults spend playing video games, talking on cellular phones, and surfing the net. The underlying commercialism of most electronic media system causes a “buy, buy, buy” mentality. To some, the electronic media appear to be run by greedy moguls devoid of ethics and unconcerned about the influence their actions have on the citizenry as a whole.
A transmitter broadcasting radio waves, a TV set sitting in the corner of the living room, a microphone picking up sound, a projector sowing a movie, fiber optics delivering a phone signals none of these is good or bad. Their value is determined by the people who use them, both those who are involved with them as a career and those who interact with them on day to day personal basis. Because of the significance of telecommunications and many changes that have occurred in the field, the term used to discuss it are in constant flux. Some of the overall terms used include telecommunications, electronic media, and broadcasting. Terms for specific media include satellite TV, low-power TV, DVDs, and personal video recorders. Other terms that are important include corporate TV, convergence, and narrowcasting. Regardless of the names attached to it, this field is very influential in terms of the time it consumes and impact good or bad that it yields. It is worthy to have a career in this field.
The information age is here, marking jobs in telecommunications very important in terms of social significance and impact. It is an excellent time to be interested in a career in electronic media. Books, articles, and websites that deal with the best jobs for the future regularly list entertainment and information among the top. Jobs for writers, producers, directors and anchors are all on the rise. Of course, you must be flexible and innovative because the field is full of rapid change. Whole new categories of jobs appear almost overnight and likewise whole categories of jobs disappear. People who succeed in the business are those who are quick on their feet and willing to adapt and initiate new ideas. People looking for lifelong security need not apply.
Gaining employment in telecommunications has never been easy because more people would like to be so employed than there are jobs. Unlike many other fields, however, this gap is narrowing. The number of people interested in entering the field has not declined, but the breadth of jobs for which they can apply has increased. If you are aspiring to enter the field, the amount of competition you will have for the job is relevant but not overly important. What really matters is how well you prepare yourself to enter the field and how capably and flexibly you perform your duties once you have a job.
On the average, the telecommunications is not an especially high paying industry. True, superstars make millions, but they are far and few between. Others earn a decent but not sensational living. What undoubtedly attract most people to the telecommunications industry is the glamour, excitement, and power of the profession. However, obtaining employment in the field still requires traditional techniques, such as obtaining a college education, preparing a resume, and having an interview. While in college, students should participate in internships, read the trades, join some organizations and try to win awards. Beginning pay and benefits may not particularly good, but there are many paths to advancement. Telecommunication as a field needs creativity of mind, unique thinking, keen observation to environment or surrounding happenings as the field is interesting and challenging.
