Leaked HTC phone shoots 12MP RAW, may run WP7 ‘Mango’

HTC-Trophy-RAW-12MP
A leaked HTC phone that appears to run Windows Phone 7 "Mango" has a 12 megapixel camera capable of shooting in RAW format — features unheard of in a smartphone.
The melding of camera and phone may soon become an even tighter fit if a leaked, unnamed HTC handset hits the market. Images of the device, which appears to have a 12 megapixel camera and RAW format shooting capabilities, were leaked by Russian techster Eldar Murtazin, who is known around the world for his pre-release tips and leaks.
A 13-minute video of the device posted to Murtazin’s Twitter page shows the device in action. While Murtazin calls the handset the HTC “Mazaa,” it appears to be nearly identical to the HTC Trophy, but with one important addition: a 12MP camera that can shoot in RAW format, a popular file type among photography professionals and enthusiasts. Not only is a 12MP nearly nonexistent (the Nokia N8 has one), but the RAW format is normally reserved for devices dedicated exclusively to shooting pictures.
Perhaps even more interesting to many tech observers is that the device is running what appears to be Windows Phone 7 “Mango,” the most recent update of Microsoft’s mobile operating system — and one that has yet to hit the consumer market.
Microsoft debuted Mango at press conferences last week, though the inclusion of HTC on the handset makers list was originally excluded from any talk of Mango devices. HTC chief executive Peter Chou later revealed that his company would also release Mango phones.
Other phone manufacturers that have Mango-based devices in the works are Acer, Fujitsu and ZTE, which are all new to the Windows Phone family. Samsung and LG are also on the list. And Microsoft revealed that Mango would be the OS to run on the first Nokia devices to be released with Microsoft’s software.

Students' problems in Pakistan

Student life is full of charm and enjoy and every one who is in practical life always miss his/her student life. But with lots of joys and fun student life is also have some challenges and problems. The students of developing countries like Pakistan have lots of problems, as financial problems, poor transportation system of Pakistan, language barrier, insincere teachers and many more problems. Some students didn’t get admission in their desired colleges or in desired study programs. In spite of all these problems and challenges the student life is best period of everyone’s life. Some problems faced by students are given below.

Financial Problems

In Pakistan education is very expensive due to the shortage of public educational institutes. We have only 73 public universities and most of the population study in these universities. Similarly, there is short number of public colleges where students can get free education. Our most of the students belong to the middle class and they have very limited resources. Parents can’t afford easily the expenses of studying their children. Lots of students have to work part time to sponsor their studies themselves. In students life nearly every student usually face financial crisis.
Students usually have to buy books, note books, notes of their course outline and meet transportation expenses. They have to bear some extra expenses for that they can’t ask to their parents as bunk classes and going out with fellows, buying gifts for their girl friends /boyfriends and many other activities.
Students can cope with these crises very easily by a little effort. There are lots of home tuitions available for university students to teach students for 2 or 3 hours and earn money to meet their expenditures. Students can also do a part time job which is related to their studies this would give them a practical experience of their field. This experience would be helpful in future for getting a job.

Transportation

Traffic is a very common problem of the citizens of Pakistan. You will see traffic jams on the roads at morning and evening timings. People are packed in the buses and vans like sacks, young students climb up the roofs of the buses, vehicle's horns never allow you to hear the voice of the person beside you. All of us face these traffic problems but here I'll we discuss how it create problems for students.
Many educational institutes have their own buses to facilitate the students but still there are lots of students who travel through public transports. At morning, people were on their way to offices, school, colleges, etc. So, there is great rush on the roads and that time there is shortage of public transports on the roads. Due to which buses and vans are full. Mostly conductors of buses and vans don’t allow students to ride on buses. Students who are getting late for their classes have to climb up buses as soon as possible and in this struggle sometimes they got injuries in many incidents.
Public transporters should provide more vehicles at morning and evening times so that more and more people should be accommodated at rush hour. Government never thinks about the traffic problems of students. The rain and the VIP movements are also creating a big problem for the students. Last when the Egyptian President came in Lahore in 2010 the most of the students of 9th class couldn't reach to the examination hall due to the traffic blockage and got late from their paper.

Imposed study programs

One of the big problems faced by students is, usually they are not free to choose study program of their own choice. Parents imposed a field of study which is not suitable for the child or he couldn’t feel good to study in that field. This is very common problem of our society. Student wants to be journalist or photographer but parents select engineering for him. So when he gets admission in engineering college he could not perform better. He feels that he is not fit for this field.
Here parents should think about it and please don’t impose any study sequence to their children. You should make aware students about the scopes and problems of every field where they have interest and let them choose a study program. Aamir Khan, famous Indian actor produced a film “3 Idiots” on this topic that students can perform better in that field which they select themselves.

Career counseling

Students when pass their matriculation examinations they face too much confusion about the selection of their further studies. They don’t know which one study area is best for them. Most of the students don’t know the different areas of study rather than Engineering and Medical due to lack of the counseling. They got admission in these sequences and didn’t have enough marks because it was not their interest area. So they can’t get admission in medical or engineering colleges. At that time they are very upset and thinking of their career.

As in Pakistan we don’t have career counselors but now there are few institutes which hire career counselors which guide students. Students should get basic knowledge about any profession before deciding to take it as their future profession. For this purpose they can consult their teachers, parents and friends. The persons which are already attached with that profession are also a great source of information. So you can consult a person which is related to the profession which you want to join in future.

Language Barrier

When students got admission in colleges or universities they face a very common problem of language barrier. Most of the students were studied in Urdu and in colleges and universities most subjects and books are in English. They can’t understand it easily.
This language barrier is also caused lack of confidence among students who got education in Urdu. In colleges and universities they meet the students of English medium schools who speaks English fluently they lose their confident in class. Experts believe that students can learn very quickly in their mother tongue but in our Pakistan we are running behind English language.

Teachers' insincerity

This is very common problem and nearly all the students talked about it. In our society teaching is not considered a good profession and people who are in this profession not sincere with it. In colleges and universities mostly teachers doesn’t come in time and mostly classes are off due to the unavailability of teachers.

Bookish/Theoretical knowledge

In our colleges and universities students got bookish and theoretical knowledge but to get job they need practical knowledge and skills. In fact, students required theoretical knowledge for their professional growth and development but in job market they need something more. Now there is too much competition in the market and owners only hire that person which has some kind of experience regarding the required job.
This problem can be solved very easily by students themselves. Students can join a company or organization during their studies for the experience. This will gives you much experience and also professional knowledge which would boost your personality.

Unhealthy environment

Students usually have to study in unhealthy and non friendly environment. As sometime the fellows and teachers are very non friendly and behave rudely. Students can’t study at home due to certain reasons as load shedding or have to do some domestic households etc. Some students who are from other cities they face lots of problems of food and residence. In Pakistan female students face very unhealthy environment as usually their family didn’t support them to study, most of girls don’t feel comfortable with co-education are the big problems faced by female students. Now day’s terrorism and load shedding are the big distracting factors.

Lake of basic IT knowledge

Now we are living in the age of information technology. Computer and internet is involved in every field of life. In Pakistan most of the students didn’t have the basic knowledge of computer and internet when they enroll in colleges or universities. Their lake of IT knowledge creates lots of problems for them and they have to be dependent on their fellows for IT related assignments.

Social media and networking

Guy Clapperton (pic), the author of ‘This is Social Media: tweet, blog, link and post your way to business success’ was recently in Kuala Lumpur to promote his updated book.
First published in 2009, this version offers new insights on using the social media as an efficient and measurable way for people to market their business.
Organisations, whether larger or small, are using social media and social networking to build robust communities of followers, to stay ahead of the competition and increase profits.
For business owners who want access to social networking tactics and reach new customers, Guy has simple, practical and real life examples for them.

SBW: What made you decide to write a book on social media?
GC: Well, I freelance in the UK for The Guardian and The Times and I have been writing on small businesses and technology for many years. Back in 2007 to 2008, I felt I needed to get my brain around what was happening in the world of social media. There was none. My brain got into gear. There was no book on this subject, and this was something I was familiar with. I wrote to John Wiley Publications, and got a meeting with the director! They subsequently passed the book to Capstone Publishing, and thats how it all started.

What are some of the new developments included in your updated book since the first was published in 2009?
Well, I got a critic who mentioned that I was too dismissive about web designers in my first book. That could have been true. So, I wrote a little bit more on web designers this time around. I also expanded on Foursquare, which is one of the first social networks that really took advantage of mobile networks from the start.

What is different in your book compared with other social media books?
Buy my book because the other books are all Americans! (Laughs) Anyway, my book uses a common sense approach and incorporates lots of business and budgeting strategies. You know what’s in it for a business, how you can get involved, and how to incorporate social networking into your business plan.

What are some of the developments in social media that will shape our future moving forward?
Mobile social media is going to become very important. Imagine someone standing outside your business premises and then asking on Twitter quickly whether a few thousand people know anything good or bad about it. That’s going to be important.

Do you think Malaysian or Asian companies in general, have yet to fully leverage on the benefits of social media? What are the simple things they can do to use social media to enhance their businesses?
Clearly, having been here only a couple of days I’m no expert in Malaysian businesses. Several which are international as well as Asian - LG Electronics, Samsung and others - have done well and I understand AirAsia has been a very strong performer in social media. If they’re starting now I think the best thing to do is to find which social media their clients use and start marketing on those.

Do you think that social media should be one of the ways for companies to market their products? Will companies that refuse to use social media be left behind?
It’s certainly going to be part of the mix. Companies that refuse social media can have different reasons. They might have found their customers aren’t interested, which would be a good reason for not spending time on it. I’d certainly recommend looking again in a couple of years if you don’t think social media is right for your business at the moment - the customer is changing.

What are some of the misconceptions about social media?
People underestimate the cost incurred, they think that there is no need to pay. They don’t value the time. Hey, you’ve got to pay the guy monitoring your media traffic.
Also, social media works well only if done correctly and properly. You need to find out what the customer wants and target the right group of customers rather than sending a mass message to everyone. Also, people won’t be actively seeking you out - you need to get the message out.

You’re writing another book “This is Social Commerce” to be launched by year end. What was the inspiration for that? How different will it be from your current book?
It’s a continuation in many ways. The first book is the introduction, the second develops the theme a little, talks to more businesses in depth and looks at some of the opportunities which have arisen only because social media has made them possible.

Was it always your dream to publish your own book? How exhilarating was it, to see your books on the shelves?
I’ve wanted to be an author ever since I was a child and finding the book on the shelves was as magical as I’d hoped. Finding a big picture of me standing next to it in the MPH Megatore was a bit of a shock!

Will you ever consider writing fiction some time in the future?
I’d love to but to be honest I’m not sure that’s where my talent lie. My current publisher doesn’t publish fiction so I’d have to start all over again. And I do like what I do for a living at the moment - trying to go into another field might set me up for a fall.

What is wimax

What is wimax

WiMAX (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access) is a telecommunications protocol that provides fixed and mobile Internet access. The current WiMAX revision provides up to 40 Mbit/s with the IEEE 802.16m update expected to offer up to 1 Gbit/s fixed speeds. The name "WiMAX" was created by the WiMAX Forum, which was formed in June 2001 to promote conformity and interoperability of the standard. The forum describes WiMAX as "a standards-based technology enabling the delivery of last mile wireless broadband access as an alternative to cable and DSL".

WiMAX Technology is also one of the emerging wireless technologies that provide us high speed mobile data and telecommunication services. WiMAX stands for Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access and it is based on IEEE 802.16 standards. In this technological world, we have so many technologies that help us in every aspect of our daily life such as transportation, communication etc. Wimax Technology works same as Wi-Fi does but it is more improved and efficient then WiFi and it can route data to Wi-Fi that is Wi-Fi devices can take advantage of WiMAX connection. WiMAX technology providess higher speed connection up to 70 Mbps over the area of 30 miles. There is no need for line of sight connection between subscriber terminals and the base station in WiMAX technology and it can support hundreds if not thousands of subscribers from a single base station. It is also specified in 802.16 standards that it will supports low latency applications such as voice, video, and Internet access at the same time.

Around 2004, WiMAX technology become progressively more discussed. Although initially designed as a fixed wimax technology, it was being conformed in the standards to develop into a mobile technology also known as IEEE 802.16e. Many experts made claims about the WiMAX technology, some claimed it would have significantly greater range than 3G, higher data rates, would be built into all computing devices and as a effect it would take over the market for 3G like services. See also what is 4G.
In 2006, the view was that WiMax mobile networks might not be launched until the end of 2007 or 2008. It would then take some time to install the networks and require terminal devices, so it might not be until 2010 that it would be likely to see whether WiMax was having any impact on 3G, on the other hand, some straightforward observations propose that its impact will be bounded to some limits.
 WiMAX Research Background

WiMAX is the standards based technology that was developed in the early 2000, though we can say that its not mature enough as compare to other technologies for example; Wi-Fi, 3g GPRS. At the moment most of the organizations are considering to deploy the WiMAX technology because it can help them to generate handsome amount of revenue and the value added services to their customers. As far as the threats to WiMAX technology are concerned the major threats are authentication, encryption and availability problems discussed in detail with other people's context in other sections of this website. Please select the topic from the navigation menu for more details on each of them.

Competing technologies

Within the marketplace, WiMAX's main competition comes from existing, widely deployed wireless systems such as UMTS, CDMA2000, existing Wi-Fi and mesh networking.
In the future, competition will be from the evolution of the major cellular standards to so-called 4G, high-bandwidth, low-latency, all-IP networks with voice services built on top. The worldwide move to 4G for GSM/UMTS and AMPS/TIA (including CDMA2000) is the 3GPP Long Term Evolution (LTE) effort.
LTE is expected to be ratified at the end of 2010, with commercial implementations becoming viable within the next two years. End of 2009 TeliaSonera started commercial deployment in Oslo and Stockholm. In Denmark the 3 big telecoms are upgrading their network, and will make LTE available during 2010.
In some areas of the world, the wide availability of UMTS and a general desire for standardization has meant spectrum has not been allocated for WiMAX: in July 2005, the EU-wide frequency allocation for WiMAX was blocked.

Future development

The IEEE 802.16m standard is the core technology for the proposed WiMAX Release 2, which enables more efficient, faster, and more converged data communications. The IEEE 802.16m standard has been submitted to the ITU for IMT-Advanced standardization.IEEE 802.16m is one of the major candidates for IMT-Advanced technologies by ITU. Among many enhancements, IEEE 802.16m systems can provide four times faster[clarification needed] data speed than the current WiMAX Release 1 based on IEEE 802.16e technology.
WiMAX Release 2 will provide strong backward compatibility with Release 1 solutions. It will allow current WiMAX operators to migrate their Release 1 solutions to Release 2 by upgrading channel cards or software of their systems. Also, the subscribers who use currently available WiMAX devices can communicate with new WiMAX Release 2 systems without difficulty.
It is anticipated that in a practical deployment, using 4X2 MIMO in the urban microcell scenario with only a single 20 MHz TDD channel available system wide, the 802.16m system can support both 120 Mbit/s downlink and 60 Mbit/s uplink per site simultaneously. It is expected that the WiMAX Release 2 will be available commercially in the 2011-2012 timeframe.

Interference

A field test conducted by SUIRG (Satellite Users Interference Reduction Group) with support from the U.S. Navy, the Global VSAT Forum, and several member organizations yielded results showing interference at 12 km when using the same channels for both the WiMAX systems and satellites in C-band. The WiMAX Forum has yet to respond.

Integration with an IP-based network

The WiMAX Forum WiMAX Architecture
The WiMAX Forum has proposed an architecture that defines how a WiMAX network can be connected with an IP based core network, which is typically chosen by operators that serve as Internet Service Providers (ISP); Nevertheless the WiMAX BS provide seamless integration capabilities with other types of architectures as with packet switched Mobile Networks.
The WiMAX forum proposal defines a number of components, plus some of the interconnections (or reference points) between these, labeled R1 to R5 and R8:
  • SS/MS: the Subscriber Station/Mobile Station
  • ASN: the Access Service Network[20]
  • BS: Base station, part of the ASN
  • ASN-GW: the ASN Gateway, part of the ASN
  • CSN: the Connectivity Service Network
  • HA: Home Agent, part of the CSN
  • AAA: Authentication, Authorization and Accounting Server, part of the CSN
  • NAP: a Network Access Provider
  • NSP: a Network Service Provider
It is important to note that the functional architecture can be designed into various hardware configurations rather than fixed configurations. For example, the architecture is flexible enough to allow remote/mobile stations of varying scale and functionality and Base Stations of varying size - e.g. femto, pico, and mini BS as well as macros.

Deployments

(South) Korea launched a Wimax network in the 2nd quarter of 2006 and a HSPA network in the 3rd quarter. By the end of 2008 there were 8.4 million HSPA subscribers and 350,000 Wimax subscribers in Korea. Almost all of HSPA subscribers come from 2G and 3G users who have been tempted to upgrade to new devices by high subsidies, whereas Wimax subscribers almost all are newcomers. Deployment of Wimax is still limited (spotted), whereas there are well over 100 countries where HSPA networks are deployed, and even where there is no HSPA coverage there is backward compatibility (using HSPA devices) to pre-existing networks (GSM and WCDMA) with a roaming infrastructure already in place.
As of October 2010, the WiMAX Forum claims there are over 592 WiMAX (fixed and mobile) networks deployed in over 148 countries.
Yota is the largest WiMAX network operator in the world but has announced that it will move new network deployments to LTE and, subsequently, change its existing networks as well.
A study carried out and published September 2010 by Blycroft Publishing found that only 364 WiMAX operations were actually offering active services (launched or still trading as opposed to just licensed and still to launch). Many operators known to be active in WiMAX were found by the research to have been bought out, merged or even switched to LTE.

A look back at 20 years of web design

Web Design
It’s hard to imagine a world without the internet for those in their 20s. It’s been with us as a common entity for 2 decades now and the evolution has been stunning. When you compare websites now to those in 1998, one thing is clear – we’ve come a long way.
This infographic by our friends at KissMetrics breaks down the history, short as it may be, of the driving force behind the visual aspects of the web. From text-based sites through to current standards and emerging technologies, the science and art of web design are a case study in progress.
What will the next decade bring? Will we still be “surfing the web” on devices or will they deliver a new internet through other means? Can you imagine this web page being transmitted directly to your brain? Don’t laugh – it could happen someday in the near future.
