Hide or lock text files in Windows

Need to password-protect or lock important or confidential files on your computer? I normally tend to save my passwords, account numbers, and user names in a text file on my computer, but it’s horribly prone to hackers. If you’re using Notepad like me to store all this highly sensitive information, you’re taking a big risk.
I’ve previously written about other methods to protect the data on your computer, mostly focused on creating a secure or protected Windows folder:

Protecting a directory might be useful in many circumstances, but it’s also useful sometimes to just encrypt or lock a single file. In this case, the above methods are simply too much extra work and not needed.
That’s where you can use a nifty little program called LockNote to replace Notepad when you want to create secure and locked text files. Using LockNote, you can protect your files with double security: AES 265-bit encryption and password protection.
locknote

Once installed, type in whatever you want into the text area and then go to File and choose Save As. Pick a location and click Save and then type in a password to protect your file.
hide files

You’ll notice that the file that is saved ends with an .EXE extension, which is for an application. The file is encrypted so even if someone gets a hold of the file, they will not be able to view the contents unless they know the password.
protect files
When you double-click on the file, you’ll be prompted for the password:
password protected file
The other cool feature of LockNote is that you can convert any of your current text files create from Notepad or wherever into a secure LockNote file by simply dragging and dropping the file onto the main interface. That means if you already have a few important files, there is no need to copy and paste it into LockNote, just drag the file into the text area.
secure files
You’ll get a message asking you if you want to convert the file into a secure file, so click Yes. Then type in a password for the file to protect it. Make sure that your passwords are long and secure so that they cannot be hacked.
Finally, the program is a stand-along executable, meaning there is no installation required. You can copy the EXE file onto your USB stick and carry it around with you anywhere.

Enjoy!

Important Features of Windows 8

Every user has seen the Windows 7 operating system with some new features. Now what about Windows 8?
What are the new features of Windows 8?
What will be the new in Windows 8?
No one knows. But I think that Windows 8 will contain more new features that any other operating system not.
Windows 8 will be more successful than any other operating system.
Microsoft is always trying to give something new to its windows users.
In this article my wish list for windows 8. I want the following features in Windows 8.

Let’s see the feature below:-

1) In-built Multiple Web Browser :- Windows 8 should have the feature of in-built multiple web browser.
The users will get the choice to choose web browser. The user does not need to download the web browser separately.
This will really help all the users of the Windows 8.
These web browsers are Mozilla Firefox, Google Crome and Internet Explorer 9.

2) More Security :- Windows 8 should contain the feature of more security.
Windows 7 have the good security feature. But still Windows 8 should contain more than Windows 7.

3) Face Recognition Security :- Windows 8 should contain the face recognition security for its users.
This security helps the users on their laptops or desktop. Through this features unauthorized person can't access the laptops or desktops.

4) Better Touch Screen Facility :- Windows 8 should contain the feature of better touch screen. Windows 7 have the touch screen facility.
But it is not that much effective. Microsoft should improve the touch screen facility in Windows 8 .

5) Social Networking :- Windows 8 should contain the feature of social networking. There should be widgets through which the users can
surf the social networking websites easily. The users can share their views, photos, videos etc from this widgets.
This widget should contain various social networking websites like Orkut, Facebook and Twitter etc.

6) Virtual Operating System :- Windows 8 should contain the virtual operating system just like Windows 7.
But the main issue is that this virtual operating system is only supported by Windows 7 Ultimate, Windows 7 Professional and Windows 7 Enterprise.

7) Easy Migration :- Windows 8 should contain the easy migration feature.
Windows 7 have a typical migration system. But windows 8 should contain easy migration system.
So that users can easy migrate their old operating system into new operating system

Top 10 features I hope to see in Windows 8

That is once you run the setup the software should automatically
installed. There is no 'Next' click in the installation. And there is no
'Restart' after installing the updates.

2. Windows 8 should not have any Application compatibility issues.

3. There is no place for security loop hole in windows 8.So that hacking the windows 8 is not possible.

4. The windows 8 should be high speed in the windows start up and shutdown
or No boot up time, when you on the system windows 8 should open
quickly.

5. Theuser interface should be redesigned simply. In
windows 7 the 'Start' menu is confusing. This should be user friendly in
windows 8.

6. It should not eat too much hard drive space. It should be light on CPC.

7. Touchscreen features should be improved. And it should have more
customized options for Windows explore to change icons. So that Tablet
PC has more power with Windows 8.

8. It should have many options
for Writing CDs and DVDs like the third party software have. And also
Windows should correct and read the Scratched discs.

9. The desktop should have the special graphical display like Custom categories
to display programs and favourite folders by user's interest.

10. The price of the Windows 8 should be Cheap. So that many users will buy
the Genuine version of Windows instead of pirated version available in
the internet.

Integration of USB 3.0 into Windows 8

Intel Developer has demonstrated USB 3.0 on September 18, 2007. This USB 3.0 is much faster than USB 2.0.

USB 3.0 has much more data transfer speed than USB 2.0.
USB 3.0 can transfer approx 5 GB/sec and USB 2.0 can transfer 480MB/sec.
This
USB 3.0 is expected to be release on this year 2010. This USB 3.0 is
already associated with Gigabyte Chipsets Motherboards P55.

USB 3.0 into Windows 8
Intel
Corporation Manager Steve Peterson said that USB 3.0 would be integrate
with its client operating System, Windows 8. Microsoft and Intel both
are already working on USB 3.0 with Windows 8. But USB 3.0 is already in
Indian market and USB 3.0 is supported by windows 7 also.

What is Windows 8?

Windows 8We all know that Microsoft is the father of the most popular Windows Operating System. There are several versions of Microsoft Windows since Windows 1.0, which was not released until November 1985 and then next was Windows 2.0 released in October 1987. After that there are several releases of Microsoft Windows including the most used, popular and stable Windows XP. Microsoft Windows enjoys the status of being used by most of the computer users in the World and without the word "Windows" a computer system seems to have no meaning.

The current version of Windows is named Windows 7 and the server OS is Windows Server 2008. Microsoft is constantly and consistently trying to improve Windows OS and add more and more features to it. You may compare two recent Windows versions, Windows Vista and Windows 7. Windows 7 is more advanced than Windows Vista with a touch optimized interface, easy use, security enhancements and lot more new features.

What will be the next version of Windows after Windows 7(Seventh major release of Windows)? The next version of Windows OS may be named as Windows 8. Microsoft have not yet announced anything officially about next version of Windows OS. However the latest job portal of Microsoft shows that the next version of Windows OS may be named Windows 8. Please read career opening in the development of Windows 8 Operating System. But it is not yet confirmed directly by any of the Microsoft officials.

"Windows 8 is Microsoft's riskiest product yet".

Wait. I am not saying it. Microsoft CEO "Steve Ballmer" said that the next release of Windows OS would be Microsoft's riskiest upcoming product in an Interview at the Gartner Symposium. But he does not take the name of the OS as Windows 8.
Does it mean that Windows 8 will not be released? Steve Ballmer does not mean that the next Windows operating system will be bad. But it makes a clears sense that Microsoft wants to add the most important and latest features to Windows 8. Microsoft may give its user a surprise. Now Microsoft is taking all the feedbacks received from Windows 7 users to develop the next Windows version. Check out interview with Steve Ballmer.

What will be new in Windows 8?

Everyone wishes to know whats new will be added to the Windows 8 OS. All that we know are only from leaks, job postings and rumours. But still there are some interesting features that may be added to Windows 8. Below are some of the new features.

1. Faster start up and shut down time.
2. Intelligent desktop with quick single click access to most of the important features with support for full user control.
3. Inbuilt support for face, voice and figure print recognition for higher security to the system.
4. Distributed File System Replication and improvements to BranchCache. This feature is found on the job posting at Microsoft job portal.
5. Support for 128 bit processor. The current OS versions are of 64 bit. Windows 8 may be a 128 bit operating system as found in LinkedIn profile of a Microsoft employee. 128 bit processors will soon be available from Intel and AMD.
6. Microsoft is tied up with Intel Corporation and Intel's latest development is gesture recognition. So we may find "Gesture Recognition" as a new feature in Windows 8.
Bill Gates also talked about gesture recognition in Windows in an interview with CNET News. Bill gates said that, "Microsoft doesn't just want to bring gesture recognition to the Xbox with Project Natal. It also wants the technology in Windows, according to a very good source". So this new technology can be implemented in Windows 8. Read more at: http://news.cnet.com/8301-13860_3-10286309-56.html?tag=contentMain;contentBody;2n#ixzz145aNj9z9
7. Another new feature that may be added to Windows 8 is "My PC knows Me". This feature may change the way we interact with our computer system with support to voice, touch and gesture recognition. Find some interesting fact about this new My PC knows Me Windows 8 feature.
8. Support of 3D video and audio experience.
9. As world is being socialized Microsoft may add small gadgets for Social Network Websites Facebook, Twitter, Orkut, etc. These features may be added as Microsoft currently shows it interest in Facebook and started to integrate its Bing search engine in Facebook.
10. Windows 8 may also likely to include an inbuilt "Software Market" and "Windows Sky Drive" for it users.

Windows 8 may also include a Virtual machine by default to give its users a complete virtual experience.

But the most important fact is how Windows 8 will deal with the currently available software and hardware. So let's have a look at the difficulties that Microsoft developers may face.

Challenges for Windows 8.

We have discussed about various new features that Windows 8 may support. But there are a lot of difficulties to be faced by Microsoft developers.
  • Rumours also says that Microsoft is following Mac OS to design its user interface and particularly the desktop. But Microsoft clearly negated the same. So what will be the new interface look like in Windows 8? Microsoft has to try his best to design a good user interface and desktop which will be easy to use and navigate.

  • Reducing the booting time. To achieve this feature Microsoft has to make the shell and kernel much lighter and it may affect the overall performance of the OS.

  • Windows 8 should work with some older system configuration like 1GHz processor with 1GB RAM. So more and more people can use it without upgrading their system.

  • What if Windows 8 will support 128 bit? If Microsoft is thinking to make Windows 8 a 128 bit system them we require a much newer system to run Windows 8 and many of us may not afford the cost along with the cost for Windows 8.
If Windows 8 support 128 bit architecture then Microsoft have to make it compatible with 32bit ad 64 bit software as development of 128 bit software may take some more time.

  • If Windows 8 is going to add all the features we have discussed then the cost of the OS will be much higher than Windows 7. Microsoft has to take measures to reduce the production cost to make Windows 8 popular. But I don't think that Windows 8 will be cost effective for all.

  • There is an advantage of Windows XP over all the next Windows versions. Windows XP is called the most stable release of Windows yet and many Windows XP users are there. Windows XP can run old as well as new programs. But in Windows 7 we can't run the old programs directly. However a Windows XP mode is provided by Microsoft in Windows 7 but in a virtual environment.

Windows 8 must eliminate this difficulty if Microsoft wants to make it a success. The developers have to make Windows 8 compatible both with old as well as new programs and not virtually but directly.
e.g, there are developers still using VB 6.0, BASIC, etc. But we can't use these software in Windows 7, due to which many colleges, schools and Universities are still using Windows XP.

  • Now let us come to our first question. Is Windows 8 coming? No one may know the answer yet. All information we know are only from rumours, job postings and some news leaks. Microsoft has not yet announced Windows 8 officially even though the name Windows 8 is not yet confirmed directly by Microsoft.
So we are not yet quite sure that what will be the next version of Windows OS and what it is going to offer. If Microsoft is developing Windows 8 and making it ready for a surprise launch, then we may expect Windows 8 in late 2011 or may be in the last quarter of 2012. Even the launch time is not sure or clear. We are just guessing it by referring to the Windows Server release road-map.

But a current news post on Microsoft Netherlands has accidentally leaked the release date which is quite a match with our guess. We may find Windows 8 beta in January of 2012, Windows 8 RC in April and the final version in July 2012.

Here are my concluding remarks on the whole discussion. Windows 8 can only be a success if it can withstand user expectations otherwise it may recall the failure of Widows Vista. But as Microsoft is considering Windows 7 user feedbacks, I hope we will get a new user friendly OS for our computer systems. If Windows 8 is true and is in the development stage then Microsoft will surely add its magic to it and we will get some wonderful exciting new features. At last I hope that we will soon hear about Windows 8 from Microsoft's mouth.

8 Reasons for Not Getting Interview Calls

Most of the jobseekers begin the job hunt without having a proper plan in place which makes it much more difficult to find a good job opening and applying to it successfully. Listed below are some of the most common mistakes which many job seekers commit. By avoiding these common mistakes you can put your job hunt on the right path and make the best of your time.
    Applying to Irrelevant Jobs:
During a job hunt, many job seekers get desperate and start applying to any and every job that is available to them. They apply to jobs which are either not relevant to their field or the level of experience and skill needed in a candidate is much above the level of the job seeker. This serves no purpose other than to irritate the employers who might add your profile to a block list which will not let you apply to any jobs in future. Avoid this conduct at all costs and only apply to jobs that are specific to your skills and education level.
    Creating a Poor Resume:
You may think that your resume is ok but there are many factors which can lead to making your résumé poor which include spelling mistakes, typing errors, too short or too long resume, exaggeration and false representation of skills etc. Also, your resume does not need to be a list of the duties or tasks that have been appointed to you at various positions. The potential employer is always more interested in finding out about your accomplishments and achievements rather than the duties.
If you feel like making a resume is too hard, there are many online samples available which can help you in making a perfect resume. The CV wizard at ROZEE.PK is specifically designed to help you make a professional resume with the option to choose between different available designs.
    Weak Objective on the Resume:
One of the worst mistakes by many job seekers is that they put a weak objective on their resume which is often taken from someone else’s resume or from a sample on the internet. For instance, “looking for an opportunity to efficiently utilize my skills and experience to contribute towards the company growth” is a poor objective as it says nothing specific about the job or the benefits you can bring to the company.
    Having a Standardized Cover Letter:
Most job seekers make the mistake of keeping a standardized cover letter which they send with every job application. A cover letter plays a very important part in making an impression on the recruiter and if you have a standardized cover letter which has nothing specific mentioning your skills and expertise or how you can be effective at the given job, there is a high chance that the recruiter might throw away your job application without even looking at the CV. So whenever you are applying to a job, make sure that you edit the cover letter to make it more suited for that particular job.
Applying to the Same Company Repeatedly:
Some job seekers are desperate to get into a specific company and they apply to every job opening in that company whether or not they are eligible for the position. If you keep on applying to the same company, the employers will not take your job application seriously and hence you will lose the chance of getting an employment there. It is important to apply to appropriate jobs only.
    Failing To Research the Company:
One of the most common mistakes is failing to research the company before applying to a job and going for the subsequent job interview. It is understandable that most of the job seekers are badly in need of a job and do not want to picky when choosing which company to apply to but it is important to research the company on the internet before applying to the position. As a job seeker you should know about the basic structure and functioning of the company so that you can decide whether working in this company will fulfill your long term goals.
If you get the interview call, you need to research the company to find out the details which will help you in properly asking questions during the interview session. Being unprepared for an interview can create a negative impression on the employer.
    Not Following Company Directions:
Sending a resume with attached cover letter does not mean that you are done with the application procedure. Every company has some a specific procedure for the submission of job application and when you apply to a job you need to follow this procedure completely. The employers will not accept the applications of job seekers who fail to follow the procedure. Think of it this way, if you cannot even follow the simple directions for a job application procedure what does that say about your capabilities.
    Lack of Follow Up:
Many times the reason you are not getting an interview call is simply the lack of follow up after submitting your job applications. You might miss the employer’s call and never call back as you don’t recognize the number. Employers seldom make the same call twice so you might lose the chance for an interview only because you were not available to pick the phone. It is important to call the employer if you do not get a call within 15 days of submitting the application.

Target Your Job Search for Effective Results

When you are job hunting, there are a lot of factors which affect the outcome of your job search. If you are constantly being unsuccessful in your job hunt, it might be that you are doing it the wrong way. There are many job seekers who have no idea of how one should begin or conduct a job hunt. The result is that even after spending weeks and months applying to hundreds of job opening, the person is still jobless.
Job hunt needs to be a properly organized and managed process which helps in getting results by clearing the problems and minor glitches that any job seeker has to face when he is on a job hunt. The most important thing to remember when you are job hunting is to make sure that you have a properly targeted and streamlined job hunting process. Having a proper job search strategy maximizes the output for the effort you put into the job hunt and increases your chances of getting a better job at a fast rate.
For a successful job hunt, you need to run a targeted job search campaign which means you should apply to jobs that best suit your qualifications and job descriptions. Applying to random job openings serves no purpose other than detracting you from your job search.
Suggested below are some of the most effective methods of streamlining your job hunt for the best results:
    List Your Qualifications:
The first step in any job hunt should be to make a list of your qualifications and capabilities. You can also include a list of the job responsibilities that you had in the last job and can be helpful in future jobs. You can also include all the skills you have acquired while working at any job but were not a part of the job description. For instance, typing skills, computer literacy, designing skills, communication skills, etc. These skills are commonly referred to as the soft skills and are rated very highly by the employers when they are recruiting candidates.
    Target The Right Market:
For an effective job search it is important that you target the right market according to your skills and achievements. You need to identify the companies which hire candidates with your educational and professional background, random applications to a great number of companies does not yield fruitful results and it is best to make sure that you are spending your time and energy in a positive pursuit.
    Select The Industry:
The most important step in any job hunt is selecting the industry which is best suited to your job requirements and your capabilities. Without short listing the industry you want to be working in, it is harder to get an interview call. When you have selected the industry that is most suitable for you, it is easier to customize and tailor your CV and cover letter to focus on that specific industry rather than having a generalized CV.
    Select The Experience Bracket:
You need to be candid when selecting the experience bracket of applying to any specific job as applying to jobs that are in a higher experience bracket does not get you any interview calls. You need to select a margin of the years of experience you have and then look for jobs that fall within this bracket. Likewise applying to job openings that require less experience is also not a good idea as it makes you over qualified for the posted job and the employer will not consider your resume.
    Pin Your Geographical Location:
Many candidates only apply to the job openings that are in the same city as are their residences or are within easily commutable distances. However, young enthusiastic and energetic are even willing to relocate if they get a good opportunity from a good organization. However, relocating to another city is not as simple as it might appear to the candidate.
    Specify Job Description:
Most people make the mistake of putting the name of the industry as the job title or job description which is a broad term and do not yield positive results. For instance, putting mass communication in the job description tab entails a lot of job categories and when your CV is uploaded, it will fail to give the most relevant response. Instead, putting ‘sub-editor in magazine’ or ‘reporter for TV channel’ can yield much better results as the employer who is looking for someone for the specific position will definitely consider your resume for the opening.
    Identify The Hiring Managers:
When you are applying to a job, it is better to find out who is the person responsible for hiring in the company. Sending an application with a specific person’s name mentioned on the top will have a significant higher chance of getting a positive response than someone who is sending his CV with “To Whom It May Concern” written on the top. It is fairly easy to get the name of the person responsible for hiring nowadays as one can visit the company website or call the office and ask for the person in charge for recruitments or the HR head.
    Don’t Neglect Smaller Companies:
Since we are all interested in applying to larger companies which can offer higher pay scales and benefits, we often tend to ignore or avoid applying to small and medium sized companies. However, there are many such companies who operate on a low scale but provide maximum benefits and competitive salaries to their employees. Moreover, since everyone is applying to the larger companies and multinationals, the probability of a person getting a job in these companies is lower as compared to medium sized companies.
    Last Words:
Job hunting is a long and tiresome process and the candidate often loses hope half way through. However the fact is that having a proper job hunt property which helps in applying to the maximum number of relevant jobs within minimum time can reduce the stress and pressure faced by the job seeker. Applying to random jobs without the proper preparation can only lead to repeated rejections and disappointment for the job seeker.

Tricks to Secure a Wireless Network from Hackers

The reason we secure a wireless network is to stop people from using the services of our network who don't have permission to utilize them. It is harder to secure a wireless network from hackers as compared to a classic wired network. This is due to the fact that a wireless network can be accessed anywhere inside the range of its antenna.

In order to secure a wireless network from hackers, we should take proper steps to save ourselves against security issues. If you don't secure a wireless network from hackers, you might end up without its service. The consequence might also include the utilization of our network to attack further networks. To secure a wireless network from hackers, you should follow these simple wireless networking tips:
    1.       Strategic antenna placement:
The first thing you have to do is to position the access point's antenna in a place which restricts the range of its signal to go further than the required area. You should not put the antenna close to a window because glass can't obstruct its signals. Place it in a central location of the building.
    2.   Use WEP:
WEP stands for Wireless encryption protocol.  It's a customary technique for encrypting traffic on a wireless network. You should never skip it as that will allow hackers to get instant access to the traffic over a wireless network.
    3.       Change the SSID, disable the broadcast of SSID:
SSID stands for service set identifier.  It is the recognition thread utilized by the wireless access point due to which the customers are capable of starting connections. For every wireless access point arranged, select an exclusive as well as unique SSID. Also, if it's attainable, hold back the broadcast of the SSID out over the antenna. It won\t appear in the listing of offered networks, while being able to provide services as usual.
    4.       Disable DHCP:
By doing this, the hackers will have to decode the TCP/IP parameters, subnet mask as well as the IP address in order to hack your wireless network.
    5.       Disable or modify SNMP settings:
Change the private as well as public community settings of SNMP. You can also just disable it. Otherwise the hackers will be able to utilize SNMP to get significant info regarding your wireless network.
    6.       Utilize access lists:
For additional security of your wireless network, and if your access point support this feature, employ an access list. An access list lets us determine precisely which machinery is permitted to attach to an access point. The access points which include the access list can employ trivial file transfer protocol (TFTP) now and then in order to download modernized lists to steer clear of hackers.

10 new features in Microsoft Word 2010.

After the roaring success of Windows 7, Microsoft recently unveiled the latest version of its productivity suit, Microsoft Office 2010.

Boasting of a host of collaborative features and an all-new interface, Office 2010 aims to bring back the glory Microsoft lost with Office 2007. Not only this, the software giant also plans to take on the Web's Big Daddy Google which offers free Web-based Google Docs.

In fact, Microsoft has completely overhauled its most-popular software offering Word which now offers improved features for search, editing and pictures.

Here is a look at 10 new features in Microsoft Word 2010.

    Improved search:
With the new and improved Find experience, you can now view a summary of search results in a single pane, and click to access any individual result. The improved Navigation Pane provides you a visual outline of your document so you can browse, sort and find what you need.

    Co-authoring in real-time:
Word 2010 redefines the way people can work together on a document. With co-authoring, you can edit papers and share ideas with others at the same time. SharePoint Foundation Services or a Windows Live account is required.

You can also view the availability of others who are authoring a document with you and can start a conversation without leaving Word.

    Share documents:
Word 2010 lets you post your documents online and then access, view, and edit them from almost any computer or your Windows phone.

Microsoft Word Web App edits documents in a Web browser when you're away from your office or home, without compromising the quality of your viewing experience. You can also stay current and take immediate action using an enhanced mobile version of Word specifically suited to your smartphone.

    Add visual effects:
With Word 2010, you can apply formatting effects such as shadow, bevel, glow, and reflection to your document text. You can spell-check text that uses visual effects, and add text effects to paragraph styles. Many of the same effects used for images are now available to both text and shapes.

    Turn your text into diagram:
Word 2010 offers you more options to add visual impact to your documents. You can choose from dozens of additional SmartArt Graphics to build diagrams just by typing a bulleted list. SmartArt enables you to transform basic, bullet-point text into visuals that illustrate your ideas.

    Image editing:
New picture-editing tools in Word 2010 enable you to add special picture effects without additional photo-editing software. You can easily adjust pictures with colour saturation and temperature controls. You also get improved tools for easier and more precise cropping and image correction.

    Recover lost draft:
After working on that document for awhile, did you accidentally close it without saving? Worry not. Word 2010 lets you recover draft versions of recently edited files as easily as opening any file, even if you never saved the document.

    Insert screenshots:
You can now capture and insert screenshots directly from Word 2010 to incorporate visual illustrations into your work. When you use a tablet-enabled device such as a Tablet PC, you get improved tools for formatting ink as easily as you format shapes.

    New File menu:
The new Microsoft Office Backstage view replaces the traditional File menu to let you save, share, print, and publish your documents with just a few clicks. With the improved Ribbon, you can access your favorite commands even more quickly by customising tabs.

    Word translation:
Word 2010 helps you work and communicate across different languages. It translates a word, phrase, or document more easily than before. You can set separate language settings for ScreenTips, Help content, and displays. And, get additional assistance for English as a second language with English text-to-speech playback.

    SWINE FLU –THE FACTS

    SWINE FLU –THE FACTS

With the dengue virus scare just ended, the swine flu incidence has flared up in the city. Figure of swine flu cases in Karachi has reached to 10 in recent outbreak. All 5 new confirmed patients are children.Sindh health minister has directed all the doctors to inform health department about these new cases of swine flu. He also directed the authorities concerned to make swine flu Surveillance Cell more.
Swine influenza, or “swine flu”, is a highly contagious acute respiratory disease of pigs, caused by one of several swine influenza A viruses. The virus is spread among pigs by aerosols, direct and indirect contact, and asymptomatic carrier pigs. Outbreaks in pigs occur year round, with an increased incidence in the fall and winter in temperate zones.   Swine influenza viruses are most commonly of the H1N1 subtype, but other subtypes are also circulating in pigs (e.g., H1N2, H3N1, and H3N2).
    Pandemic risk.
It is likely that most of people, especially those who do not have regular contact with pigs, do not have immunity to swine influenza viruses that can prevent the virus infection. If a swine virus establishes efficient human-to human transmission, it can cause an influenza pandemic. The impact of a pandemic caused by such a virus is difficult to predict: it depends on virulence of the virus, existing immunity among people, cross protection by antibodies acquired from seasonal influenza infection and host factors.
    Symptoms.

Generally clinical symptoms are similar to seasonal influenza but reported clinical presentation ranges broadly from asymptomatic infection to severe pneumonia resulting in death. Since typical clinical presentation of swine influenza infection in humans resembles seasonal influenza and other acute upper respiratory tract infections, most of the cases have been detected by chance through seasonal influenza surveillance. Mild or asymptomatic cases may have escaped from recognition; therefore the true extent of this disease among humans is unknown. The main symptoms are –
    ·        Headache.
    ·        Fever.
    ·        Soaring Throat.
    ·        Troublesome breathing.
    ·        Cough and body ache.
    ·        Chill, fatigue.
    ·        Abdominal pain.
    ·        Diarrhea.
    ·        Severe vomiting as shown in common flu.

Serious signs of Swine Flu –
    ·        Worse cough.
    ·        Pneumonia.
    ·        Pain or Pressure in Chest.
    ·        Rapid breathing.
    ·        Number of heart beats – 100 ore more.
    ·        Bluish or grey skin colour.
    ·        Low blood pressure due to dehydration.
    ·        No desire of liquid intake.
    ·        Unable to interact.
    ·        Dizziness and confusion.
    ·        Very high body temperature.
    ·        Respiratory failure.

    Precaution

It is a communicable disease which spreads through sputum, saliva, nasal discharge and sneezing of confirmed infected person.
    The following precautionary measures must be taken, to minimize the chances of getting infected with Swine flu;

    1. People showing flu like symptoms such as fever, cough, running nose and
difficulty in breathing should be allowed to stay at home for a period of 7 to 10 days and
    consult your nearest medical practitioner.

    2. Avoid contact with the pigs (swine). If you have pigs in your area then please inform the local municipal office so that they can take care of those pigs by keeping them isolated.

    3. Keep a distance of minimum 6 feet from people affected with Catarrh, Cough and Fever.

    4. Swine flu is communicable disease, so use the face masks to protect from
    the swine flu antigens.

    5. Cover your nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing, using one time disposable
    tissue paper when possible.

    6. Avoid shaking hands, embracing and visiting the congested places and also
crowded places like theaters, this can be a cause of spreading ground for Swine flu.

    7. Wash your hands frequently with soap or diluted water of dettol at least 6-8
times a day to reduce the spread of virus.

    8. Instruct the above points to children as they may be victimized easily with the Swine flu.

    9. Avoid eating outside food because it may be contaminated and may make you
    infected with the virus.

    10. Don’t use the public urinals because many people spit there,
which could lead to the spreading of the disease.

    11. Use boiled water only to Drink.

    12. Good food, clean living, rest and exercise are the basic ingredients.
There are certain nutrients that have been shown to strengthen immune system,
such as echinacea, vitamins C, E, beta carotene, zinc, and elderberries.

    Swine flu threat to Pakistan

During the resent outbreak Pakistan has started taking preventive measures to turn away the threat of Swine flu. Airport authorities are at high-alert and NIH (National Institute of Health) is constantly updating itself, by keeping in-touch with WHO, regarding this issue. Airport authorities have been directed to conduct screening of passengers.
The Executive Director of National Institutes of Health (NIH) Dr. Birjees Mazhar Kazi told Geo News that in accordance with WHO guidelines, countrywide preventative measures have been taken against all types of influenza, Congo virus and other diseases.
    Surveillance cells

The provincial health department has established two surveillance cells, one in Civil Hospital Karachi and other in Hyderabad to monitor the cases of swine flu and collecting data.
    Transmission

    Transmission between pigs

Influenza is quite common in pigs. The main route of transmission is through direct contact between infected and uninfected animals. These close contacts are particularly common during animal transport. The direct transfer of the virus probably occurs either by pigs touching noses, or through dried mucus. Airborne transmissions through the aerosols produced by pigs coughing or sneezing are also an important means of infection.
    Transmission to humans
People who work with poultry and swine, especially people with intense exposures, are at increased risk.Other professions at particular risk of infection are veterinarians and meat processing workers, although the risk of infection for both of these groups is lower than that of farm workers.
     Prevention of swine influenza
Prevention of swine influenza has three components:
    ·        Prevention in swine,
    ·        Prevention of transmission to humans,
    ·          Prevention of its spread among humans.

     In swine

Methods of preventing the spread of influenza among swine include
    ·        Facility management,
    ·        Herd management,
    ·        Vaccination
Facility management includes using disinfectants and ambient temperature to control virus in the environment. The virus is unlikely to survive outside living cells for more than two weeks, except in cold (but above freezing) conditions and it is readily inactivated by disinfectants. Herd management includes not adding pigs carrying influenza to herds that have not been exposed to the virus.
Prevention of pig to human transmission
The transmission from swine to human is believed to occur mainly in swine farms where farmers are in close contact with live pigs. Although strains of swine influenza are usually not able to infect humans this may occasionally happen, so farmers and veterinarians are encouraged to use a facemask when dealing with infected animals.   Risk factors that may contribute to swine-to-human transmission include smoking and, especially, not wearing gloves when working with sick animals—thereby increasing the likelihood of subsequent hand-to-eye, hand-to-nose or hand-to-mouth transmission
Prevention of human to human transmission
Influenza spreads between humans when infected people cough or sneeze, then other people breathe in the virus or touch something with the virus on it and then touch their own face Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread this way."  Swine flu cannot be spread by pork products, since the virus is not transmitted through food. The swine flu in humans is most contagious during the first five days of the illness although some people, most commonly children, can remain contagious for up to ten days.

    High-risk groups

Some people are more at risk of complications if they catch flu. People are particularly vulnerable if they have:
    ·         Chronic (long-term) lung disease.
    ·         Chronic heart disease.
    ·         Chronic kidney disease.
    ·         Chronic liver disease.
    ·         Chronic neurological disease (neurological disorders include motor neurone disease, multiple sclerosis and Parkinson's disease).
    ·         Immunosuppressant (whether caused by disease or treatment).
    ·         Diabetes mellitus.
    Also at risk are:
    ·         patients who have had drug treatment for asthma in the past three years
    ·         pregnant women
    ·         people aged 65 and over

     Advice to school
    ·        Stay home when sick.
    ·        Separate ill students and staff.
    ·        Hand hygiene and respiratory etiquette.
    ·        Routine cleaning.
    ·        Early treatment of high-risk students and staff.
    ·        Consideration of selective school dismissal.
The CDC may recommend additional measures to help protect students and staff if global and national assessments indicate that influenza is causing more severe disease. In addition, local health and education officials may elect to implement some of these additional measures.
    ·                          Active screening.
    ·                          High-risk students and staff members stay home.
    ·                          Students with ill household members stay home.
    ·                          Increase distance between people at schools.
    ·                          Extend the period for ill people to stay home .
    Infectious Period
Persons with swine influenza A (H1N1) virus infection should be considered potentially contagious for up to 7 days following illness onset. Persons who continue to be ill longer than 7 days after illness onset should be considered potentially contagious until symptoms have resolved. Children, especially younger children, might potentially be contagious for longer periods. The duration of infectiousness might vary by swine influenza A (H1N1) virus strain. Non-hospitalized ill persons who are a confirmed or suspected case of swine influenza A (H1N1) virus infection are recommended to stay at home (voluntary isolation) for at least the first 7 days after illness onset except to seek medical care.
    Recommendations for public health personnel
For interviews of healthy individuals (i.e. without a current respiratory illness), including close contacts of cases of confirmed swine influenza virus infection, no personal protective equipment or antiviral chemoprophylaxis is needed.
For interviews of  ill, suspected or confirmed swine influenza A virus case, the following is recommended:
    ·                          Keep a distance of at least 6 feet from the ill person; or
    ·                          Personal protective equipment: fit-tested N95 respirator [if unavailable, wear a medical (surgical mask)].
For collecting respiratory specimens from ill confirmed or suspected swine influenza A virus case, the following is recommended:
    ·                          Personal protective equipment: fit-tested disposable N95 respirator [if unavailable, wear a medical (surgical mask)], disposable gloves, gown, and goggles.
    ·                          When completed, place all PPE in a biohazard bag for appropriate disposal.
    ·                          Wash hands thoroughly with soap and water or alcohol-based hand gel.

    Swine Flu Vaccine

As the swine influenza A (H1N1) virus is a new virus, no swine flu vaccine was immediately available to prevent infections.
And unfortunately, the seasonal flu vaccine that many of us receive will not provide any protection against the swine flu virus.
A vaccine has been developed, tested, and now FDA approved and an increasing supply of doses are arriving at doctor's office and clinics to help prevent infections from the 2009 H1N1 strain of the flu.
CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) recommends that swine flu vaccine should first go to:
    ·                         Pregnant women
    ·                         Household contacts and caregivers for children younger than 6 months of age
    ·                         Healthcare and emergency medical services personnel
    ·                         All children and young adults from 6 months through 24 years of age, and
    ·                         Persons aged 25 through 64 years who have health conditions associated with higher risk of medical complications from influenza.

    CONCLUSION
People showing flu like symptoms such as fever, cough, running nose and difficulty in breathing should be allowed to stay at home for a period of 7 to 10 days.
There is no need to worry a lot as the Swine flu is curable. As suggested by elders that prevention is better than cure, so the  precautionary measures must be  followed strictly to minimize the chances of getting infected with Swine flu.
